More About the Atlanta Regional Office

Operating VA’s Home Loan Guaranty Program for Veterans

The Atlanta RO is one of eight VA regional loan centers (RLCs) administering VA’s Home Loan Guaranty program, which helps Veterans obtain mortgage loans from private lenders by guarantying a portion of the loan against loss. This program can also prevent Veterans from losing their homes during temporary financial difficulties. We serve Veterans in Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina. We also assist with eligibility determinations and assist with delinquent VA loans on a nationwide basis.

Working with the U.S. Department of Defense on Integrated Disability Evaluation System

Atlanta RO is actively engaged in the Integrated Disability Evaluation System, a joint program with the Department of Defense (DOD) to improve the disability rating process.

The program aims to create a single disability exam conducted to VA standards and used by both VA and DOD, develop a single disability rating completed by VA that is binding on both departments, and provide payments of VA benefits within 30 days of a Servicemember’s separation from service.

Atlanta has operational sites at Fort Stewart, Fort Benning, Fort Gordon, Moody Air Force Base, and Robins Air Force Base.

Assisting Service-Disabled Veterans Throughout Georgia

Atlanta RO’s Veteran Readiness and Employment program provides one-on-one employment counseling and related support to roughly 4,000 Georgia Veterans and Servicemembers with service-connected disabilities.

Offices are in Decatur, Augusta VA Medical Center, uptown in Augusta, Columbus, Savannah Primary Care Clinic, and Tifton. Coming Home to Work counselors are present at Fort Benning, Fort Gordon, and Fort Stewart.

Processing GI Bill Benefits

Education claims received from Veterans and dependents attending school in the states/territories of North Carolina and the U.S. Virgin Islands are processed by the Buffalo, New York Regional Processing Office; Georgia and Puerto Rico are processed by the Muskogee, Oklahoma Regional Processing Office.
