Overtime Mandated to Reduce Backlog
VA is mandating overtime for the compensation claims processors in its 56 regional offices from 5/15-9/30. The additional hours will be used to help eliminate the claims backlog and process high-priority claims.
Fully Developed Claim Partnership
VA has partnered with Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion as part of the Fully Developed Claim effort, which is a key element of the VA strategic plan to end the claims backlog in 2015.
Gulf War Veterans' Illnesses Report
The 2012 Reportof the Gulf War Veterans' Illnesses Task Force focuses on improving care and services to Gulf War Veterans. The report is available for review and feedback.
VA Initiative Expedites Old Claims
VA is expediting benefit claims that are a year or older. The initiative provides a safety net for submitting evidence, protects the right to appeal the decision, and continues to fast track the most vulnerable Veterans.
Budget Proposal Enhances Benefits
The President's FY 2014 Budget Proposal allocates a 10.2% increase for VA. The increase mainly targets spending for health care, eliminating the claims backlog, and Veteran homelessness.
Camp Lejeune Veterans Benefits
Veterans who served on active duty at Camp Lejeune from 1/1/1957 through 12/31/1987 may have been exposed to contaminated drinking water and may be entitled to free VA health care and compensation benefits.

Indian Head Village Veterans' Outreach Event

Location: Indian Head Village Pavilion, 100 Walter Thomas Road, Indian Head, MD 20640
VA in partnership with Mayor Dennis J. Scheessele's Office of Indian Head, the Gospel Union Church of Christ, the National Vietnam Veterans Foundation and other agencies that are stakeholders and supporters of Veterans, will co-host the Indian Head Village Veterans' Outreach Event. Various agencies will attend this event to provide information regarding programs and services that benefit our Veterans. Veterans will have an opportunity to apply for jobs and submit their resumes to representatives from the private sector. Vendors are being recruited to provide on-site services at no charge to Veterans, their family members, survivors, and caregivers. All handouts and giveaway items are related to Veterans' benefits and job employment.

Womens Veterans Summer Retreat

"Women Veterans Rock" will host a retreat for women Servicemembers, Veterans, and dependents. The retreat will have panels and roundtables, including the power to overcome self-imposed limitations, leading and leveraging by example, executive coaching, and power networking with women businesses, community, and civic leaders.
