The Nashville RO is actively engaged in the Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES), a joint program with the Department of Defense (DOD) to improve the disability rating process. The program aims to create a single disability exam conducted to VA standards and used by both VA and DOD, develop a single disability rating completed by VA that is binding on both departments, and provide payments of VA benefits within 30 days of a Servicemember’s separation from service. Our VR&E IDES program took effect in 2012 at Fort Campbell Military Base. The two Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors assigned to IDES have served more than 100 Servicemembers. They also are actively involved in IDES briefings at the Medical Evaluation Board.
The Nashville RO’s VR&E VetSuccess on Campus program has offices at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) and Austin Peay State University (APSU). VetSuccess has proven to be an asset to both schools, with Veterans attending the schools and Veterans seeking general information about VA educational benefits. The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors assigned to VetSuccess are involved in all campus activities and participate in a new orientation developed specifically for Veterans seeking to further their education.
The Nashville RO houses one of eight VA National Call Centers, which provide customer service to Veterans and their families nationwide. The National Call Center can be reached at 1-800-827-1000.
