No two military careers or transitions are the same. But all transitioning service members gain valuable skills during their service that translate into civilian life.
SkillBridge is a Defense Department (DOD) program for transitioning service members. It offers employment training, internship, and apprenticeship opportunities at more than 1,000 public and private organizations across the country. VA has SkillBridge opportunities for civilian careers at different offices and programs.
Service members of all ranks may be eligible to participate in SkillBridge. You are eligible if you:
Each military Service may have other requirements for active-duty service members and members of the National Guard or Reserves. These may include physical fitness standards, character of discharge and/or completion of Transition Assistance Program.
VA is currently offering SkillBridge opportunities in claims processing and healthcare. More opportunities are posted regularly.
WARTAC offers transitioning service members a potential long-term, quality career at the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA).
WARTAC is a 10-12-week education and employment program for wounded warriors and transitioning service members. Participants learn the skillset of a VA Veteran Service Representative (VSR)(GS-0996-07/10) and complete a national VBA training program during their last 180 days of active-duty service.
Successful completion leads to a hiring interview at one of VBA’s 56 regional offices.
